How Can I Know God?

Everything we do at Crossroads centers around the central message that people matter to God. God wants us to enjoy a personal relationship with Him that is real and life-changing, and has made a way for us to know Him.

God loves you and created you for a personal relationship with Him.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son so that anyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).

All things were created by Him and for Him (Colossians 1:16).

I have come in order that you might have life in all its fullness! (John 10:10).

Our sin keeps us from having a personal relationship with God.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).

For the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).

All our human efforts to reach God ultimately fail.

There is a way that seems right to man, but in the end it leads to death (Proverbs 14:12).

People try many different ways to fill the void of this missing relationship in their lives before turning to God, but none of them satisfy. Even when we know that our deepest need is God, we often try wrong ways of getting to know Him.

All of us are unclean, and our righteousness is like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6).

Jesus Christ is the only way we can have a personal relationship with God.

For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5).

Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6)

God Himself came to earth as a human being to bring us back to Himself. If any other way would have worked, Jesus Christ would not have come. The Way is a Person!

But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).

Each of us must personally choose to begin this relationship with God by trusting in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord.

  1. Admit that you have sinned and ask for His forgiveness. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

  2. Believe that Jesus died to pay for your sins and that He rose again and is alive today. Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved (Acts 16:31).

  3. Claim God’s free gift of forgiveness by faith. To all who receive Him, to those who believe in His name, He gives the right to become children of God (John 1:12).

Where would you place yourself?

[] I don’t have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

[] I’m not sure if I have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

[] I have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Jesus says, Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with Me (Revelation 3:20). You can begin your personal relationship with God by believing in Jesus Christ as your Savior for the forgiveness of sin and the gift of eternal life and by receiving Jesus Christ into your life. You can express your faith through a simple prayer like the one below, or use your own words.

Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner, and that I deserve to die in my sins. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. By faith I ask you now to forgive me of my sins and to give me the gift of eternal life. Help me to live for You from this day forward. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God’s promise to you:

Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:13).
